The link to cancel or reschedule contains a long random value and nothing else — no name, no email address, no booking number.

What happens if two visitors click the same slot at the same second?

One gets it, the other is told the slot has just been taken. This is decided by the database through a unique key per time unit, not by a check in PHP that could be a moment too late.

Do the reminders work without a paid service?

Yes. They run on WordPress' own scheduled tasks, and they catch up on whatever is due instead of demanding an exact moment — so a quiet site does not silently skip them. Every reminder is sent once, recorded in the database. WordPress' scheduler only runs when somebody visits your site; if your site is quiet for long stretches, set up a real cron job at your host. The plugin shows you under Settings → Reminders whether the scheduler is healthy, and how to set that up.

Is any personal data sent anywhere?

No. The plugin contacts no external server. No IP address is stored — the spam protection turns it into a one-way value that cannot be turned back and expires after an hour. Under Settings → Privacy you set how long booking data is kept and whether old bookings are anonymised or deleted.

Does it work on a multilingual site?

Yes, and it deliberately does not force a language. The language a visitor booked in is stored with the booking, and every email to that person switches to it — including the reminder that goes out from a scheduled task. WPML, Polylang and TranslatePress keep working, because nothing here hooks the site locale. Your own wording (email templates, the names of your appointment types) is never machine-translated.

Can I charge for an appointment?

Not with this plugin alone. Paid appointments need the Pro extension together with the free smartEngin buy plugin, which handles checkout, invoice, coupons and refunds. There is deliberately no second payment system in here. You can enter a price without them, but nothing is ever charged, and the plugin says so on the appointment type.

Which third-party code ships with the plugin?

One library: FullCalendar 6.1.19 (MIT). It is shipped inside the plugin instead of loaded from a CDN, so that no visitor request ever leaves your site. Its readable source is at github.com/fullcalendar/fullcalendar, and
assets/vendor/fullcalendar/LIESMICH.txt
in the plugin names the exact files and where they came from.

What happens to my data if I delete the plugin?

Nothing, unless you ask for it. Deleting the plugin keeps your appointments and settings, so an accidental click never costs you your bookings. There is a switch under Settings → Privacy if you really want everything removed.

0.41.0

Fixed: a first or last name longer than 100 characters could make a booking fail with “The booking could not be saved.” Every field now has a length that fits: names 100 characters, phone 60, other lines 200, messages 2000, the reason for a cancellation 500. Longer input is shortened; an email address is never shortened — one longer than 200 characters is refused with a clear message.

The calendar on your booking page now has a brake. One connection may ask for free times at most 300 times in 10 minutes — a person browsing through the months needs a few dozen. Whoever asks more often is told to wait and is counted under Settings → Log → Blocked attacks.

Groundwork for the Pro extension: sign-ups for free events can now wait for a confirmation by email, and somebody who has not confirmed their place on a waiting list does not move up.

0.40.0

When you enter or move an appointment yourself and the time is taken, a window now opens in the middle of the screen — on your phone as well as in the admin calendar — and says what is in the way: another appointment (with its time and customer), or only the preparation and follow-up times overlapping. Until now a small line under the form said “Another appointment already occupies this time.”, and it was easy to miss.

New: a warning for absences, events, your linked calendar and closed public holidays. Until now these were not checked at all when you entered an appointment yourself. Now you are told, for example “You are absent at this time: ‘Holiday’”, and you decide: choose another time, or create it anyway. Another appointment at the same time stays impossible, as before.

0.39.0

New: an overview of blocked attacks under Settings → Log → Blocked attacks. You see how often bots and suspicious requests were turned away today, in the last 7 and in the last 30 days — by reason, by place (which booking view) and minute by minute. Only numbers are stored: no IP addresses and nothing anybody typed in. After 30 days the numbers are removed by themselves, and a button deletes everything at once — after asking you on the page.

The explanations say honestly when a person may be behind it: a filled-in hidden field or a form sent within seconds is a bot; an old page or a throwaway address can also be a real visitor.

The AI connection counts wrong connection codes and lock-outs there as well.

The block list and the limit per IP address can now be used by the Pro extension for event sign-ups too.

0.38.0

The order of the appointment types in the drop-down is now yours. Under Booking views you drag the rows into the order your visitors should see — arrow buttons do the same thing for the keyboard. Until now that order followed the Appointment types page and could not be changed per booking view. Nothing moves on its own: as long as you do not drag anything, everything stays exactly where it was.

An appointment type can now have its own booking confirmation — with attachments. Switch it on under the appointment type and the text appears already filled in with your general template; extend it, attach a questionnaire, a PDF with directions or a ZIP, and save. Every other appointment type keeps using the general template from Settings → Emails, untouched.

This works for paid appointment types too: there the confirmation goes out once the money has arrived, and it is the same email.

A test button sits under each appointment type so you can see your own confirmation, attachments and all, without booking a real appointment.

Please note: as soon as you type your own wording, that wording is fixed in every language and later improvements to the standard text no longer reach it — the same rule that already applies to the general templates. Clear both fields and save to follow the general template again.

Attachments are picked from your media library, at most five per email.
